A Lupus Search Portal: Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that while sometimes fatal, due to recent medical advances, fatalities are now rare. Lupus being an autoimmune disease, the immune system attacks the body resulting in inflammation and tissue damage. SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) can affect any part of the body, but usually harms the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys and nervous system. Lupus can occur at any age, being most common in women of non-European descent. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressants are used to treat the symptoms of Lupus though there is currently no cure.
